Laser Hair Removal Information

You might be a bit intimidated by the laser hair removal process. Perhaps you are wondering how long the procedure will last, if it will be painful, and what exactly are the steps taken. The hair removal links on this site can give you a rundown on each clinic's procedure.

Laser Hair Removal Information

Here is a quick overview of the hair removal surgery process and what will happen at your first hair removal appointment. Treatment is quick and easy. Even for larger target areas such as your back or legs, the entire process will only take a matter of minutes.

  1. A cold gel is spread over the targeted area; a gel similar to that used for an ultrasound.
  2. Machine settings are set to match your skin color, hair density, and the area of the body being treated.
  3. You will be asked to wear special glasses to protect your eyes against any stray laser light.
  4. Target hair may be shaven or trimmed.
  5. The machine's hand piece is moved over your target area with slight pressure. The the light-based energy is emitted in highly controlled flashes and pulses. You may hear a beep with each pulse. You may also feel a slight pinch similar to the snapping of a rubber band.
  6. The ultrasound gel is removed.
  7. A soothing ointment or cool compress is applied to area. Your hair follicles may be red after treatment but this just means that the follicles are inflamed and the treatment is working.
  8. You will receive at-home care instructions and recommendations for a follow-up appointment.

That's all there is to it.  The laser hair removal process is extremely quick and easy with minimal side-effects.  With that said however, improper use of laser technology can be harmful, so be sure your clinic and technician are highly-trained, certified professionals.
